Case Study: My MADD CAPP 3-D adventure
A colleague of mine contacted me one day. She told me she had a new client that was a game maker. They had a new twist on the game of checkers.”Checkers with a POP!” On the day we met with them they showed me a model of the dice popper. They told me that they were having a model maker make up all the game pieces. What they wanted of me was to do the retouching of the photography they had planned after the model maker was finished. I looked at the model of the popper they had brought, It had seems and glue spots and other blemishes. Thought to myself “what a retouching nightmare”. But then I had an idea. I had been teaching myself how to use a 3-D modeling program for about half a year. So I spoke up and told them about the program and that it renders very realistic images. They were skeptical as you can imagine. So I told them “Look, let me try modeling the dice popper. If it doesn’t work out no harm, no charge." I went back to my office and got to work. I created the popper in a few days and sent some images I rendered. The next message from my new client was “Go ahead and do the rest of the game. We have canceled the model maker and photographer." History was made. Now MADD CAPP games and I have wonderful relationship and my 3-D modeling and expertise in photo manipulation have helped their products to become worldwide sellers. My client likes what we call "lifestyle images" to promote their products. In these instances I I found suitable stock images and manipulated my 3-D model to fit. The slide show of images shows the 3-D model 1st, then the rendering of the 3-D model. Then there is the stock image and the the merging of the two for the final "lifestyle image.
